It offers approximately 650 works of art—a great number of which are paintings from artists like Caravaggio, Henri Laurens, and Pedro Orrente. The artwork depicts biblical scenes, ranging from Joseph’s encounter with Potiphar’s wife to St. Paul’s imprisonment, both of which span an entire page. The paintings are enough to make users forget about the maps they were originally seeking. The maps (around 125) are original, full color, and generally large enough to make for easy use, though they are often dwarfed by the artwork on adjacent pages. Not to be overlooked is the text of Biblica. Like most Bible atlases, the text has the feel of a biblical survey but does much more than simply paraphrase scripture itself. Its intent is to describe the history behind scripture in a readable and insightful manner. This history includes the period between Old and New Testaments, as well. Are you kidding me!--UPDATE to this Review: Apparently this massive and gorgeous book has been produced by 3 or more publishers. When I said that my book was 17 pounds and 17 inches tall, 13 inches wide, and nearly 3 inches thick, this refers to the Global Book Publishing Edition which comes with Slip Cover Box. Not every publisher made it THIS BIG! The Global Book Publisher's edition is gorgeous, but VERY LARGE, with slip case (made of wood), CD-ROM of almost every picture and map, and this enormous size and heavy book (absolutely stunning pictures on enormous and heavy glossy pages. Be aware that my review is for this publisher...Just check for your publisher to see what you are getting... search for what is most important for you. Quite frankly, the smaller 10 bound 13 inch edition would have been plenty.. but, I wouldn't be without the CD-ROM. Mine is printed in 2006. My ISBN number is 1-74048-009-0 and I just reach over to pick this book off the floor to get that number, I could barely lift it with one hand. Gosh, this think is massive and beautiful!--WOW! Yes, you want a better review than "WOW!" but, let me tell you, this book is stunning. At 17 lbs, this book is HEAVY. The Pages are magnificent, 17 inches tall, 13 inches wide! Absolutely incredible glossy paper. This isn't just a book, it is an experience. My wife was home when this thing came in a LARGE box with red warning labels "HEAVY"... and the post man said, "Maam, be careful, I don't know if you can lift this." I came running to the door with NO IDEA what this could be. I remembered only ordering a Bible Atlas that had a CD-Rom. I had no idea it was like this. This came with with a wooden slip case and the whole things was so large, it could be a small Coffee Table, not simply a coffee table book.But it is gorgeous. Stunning. The full color pictures are amazing. You have to experience the feel and the richness of this book to fully appreciate what you are getting. And trust me, this book became a talking point of many a visitor as they could NOT believe how large and beautiful it was. How they sell this for under a hundred dollars is hard to imagine...that I got mine for less than a fourth of that, well, it is a steal. But you need ROOM for such a massive book.But how is it as a book? This book was put together by famously well received Barry J. Beitzel, author of the New Moody Bible Atlas. Some of the same maps grace both. But don't confuse the two, they are two distinct products. This one is a book of Biblical backgrounds, images, art, archeology, paintings, history and manners and customs, that also happens to have atlas maps too. 527 pages of text and pictures jump out at you. If all you want is the atlas, you will not like this book, as there is so much more here, and a Bible Atlas would have more maps. Still, the history, customs, and Biblical accounts are well done. A myriad of other authors also contributed and their bios are all included.This is an amazing work, and I am giving it 5 stars becuase I have forgiven its one short coming (that might lead to a 4 rating), this is not primarily an atlas. Oh, it probably has over a hundred maps (and the CD-ROM has some very nice interactive Bible Maps), but if all you want is a Bible Atlas... get the New Moody Bible Atlas, Rasmussen's Bible Atlas (Zondervan's newest), or the ESV Bible Atlas.... all are done within the last year and all are excellent and Rasmussen's is a steal. But buy Biblica for everything it has besides the wonderful Bible maps.I just came back from Europe (Rome, etc) and this book is like a journey to these ancient sites with a guide along to explain things. It will be worth its very small price tag, and you will learn to appreciate the Biblical stories so much more. And while some of the Renaissance painting may not interest you (I like them), they certainly add to the overall experience and the feel for what you are reading (if you take the time to read, since visually you will be captivated. This is a Great Book that covers the History of The Bible. It contains fantastic works of Art, History, Theology, and the wonderful stories and history of the Bible. This particular book with the CD Rom and in a Slip Case is especially unique as it has the Largest Format Printed for this Book. The actual book is about 17 inches tall, by 13 inches wide, and weights about 16 pounds. The Historical Art within the book must truely be seen to be appreciated. If you love the Bible, and know its history, you will not be sorry if you purchase this book. One thing the keep in mind this is a huge book, but the Art it contains is best viewed in this larger format for the greatest effect. God Bless.

It's a shame some people feel the need to trash a great book, and this is a great book. It's averaging 4-1/2 stars for a good reason, it rocks! Nathan McBride is an extremely amiable hero who doesn't seek praise or recognition. He doesn't need it, he's comfortable in his own skin. He despises bullies and stands-up for the little guy, even if it costs him personally. In FIRST TO KILL, he takes on an assignment for a friend with no expectation except to do the right thing. We see him in action in the beginning of the book and doesn't kick a man once he's down - there's no honor in that. Although damaged and flawed, Nathan is an honorable man with integrity. He can be brutal when needed, but he doesn't enjoy it. He knows all too well what it feels like to be on the wrong side of violence. I read book 2 in the series and cringed at what Nathan went through in Nicaragua, and yet he retains his humanity and compassion for others.There are scenes in Peterson's books that contain violence, but they're not overly graphic by any means. You can't sugarcoat a thriller like this, it ruins it. If you're looking for a cozy mystery, this isn't a book for you. In my opinion, the author skillfully takes you to the razors edge, then eases off before crossing certain lines. As others have said, if you like Vince Flynn, you'll like Peterson as well.Is this a perfect or flawless book? Of course not, what book is? But I don't find it living up to the negative reviews. It's not riddled with errors at all. Try a sample from the Kindle page and decide for yourself. The author has a unique style that I found refreshing - I've read enough books to recognize individual styles.Cheers for Peterson, I hope he comes out with book 3 soon!

OMG!! I love love this series!! I've read all 4 of them and I'm hooked on Nathan & Harv! They're just kickasses guys who are tough but very humble. The reticent Nathan is the main guy in this series and his side kick Harv his friend are two of the most tough guys I've ever read about. Why I liked this series are many but I'll give you few that I liked so much. First, author did an excellent job in describing these two characters without the fluff etc.,...so sick of those. The terrains they covered are places that are familiar to me. I know I know, but sorry those Russians, Tehrans etc are just too out there for me. These two are very very secret ops for CIA and supposedly retired from their jobs. Unfortunately they're called in for secret covet jobs that the government cannot be involved in b/c they're not sanctioned by congress??? more often than they liked. So this makes it more exciting because if they caught, US will deny knowing them. Ugh who wants a job like that?

I received a copy of Right to Kill, Book #6, and decided to hurry and read book 1, First to Kill, to get a feel for the characters and how they developed. It was well worth it. First to Kill is the story of Nathan is a admirable hero who just wants to right wrongs. He was terribly disfigured when he was imprisoned and tortured as a now former CIA operative, sniper and swat expert. and the scars he carries, both physical and mental, make him into the person we want to follow through this exciting story. His equally admirable partner, Harvey, also a former CIA operative, with the same expertise, saved his life, and the two are now bonded for life. In this story, the partners, now owning and running a "security company," team up with the FBI and other government agencies, to take down a trio of domestic terrorists armed with hundreds of pounds of Semtex and the knowledge and will to use it. If you enjoy old-fashioned thrills, chills, and non-stop excitement, this book will not disappoint. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Starts off an undercover agent's identity is compromised so he is tortured and now there is missing Semtex. Nathan and Harvey, who are retired but best friends, are asked to get involved in a botched mission. Why is this personal for some? Being a sniper, Nathan kills 1 of the 3 brothers. Now the brothers want revenge on Nathan plus revenge on the government. There are now two plots: finding the missing agent and how does the Semtex involve the government? You will hate and love Nathan. Is there really a need to deal with certain criminals outside the justice system? He does not enjoy it though. Nathan is dependable. He puts others first and does not let what happens to himself from protecting and saving others. Harvey and Nathan trust each other implicitly and would do anything for each other. You will not want to put this book down!

This is a thoroughly generous and well-balanced introduction to the writings and thought of Rene Girard. His mimetic theory has immense explanatory power radically reaching into and connecting seemingly disparate disciplines and thought-worlds. His more anthropological approach to the Judeo-Christian narrative, climaxing in the Gospel of Jesus, provides an incredible perspective that surely makes for a healthy corrective both to dangerously abstract and dehistoricized theological interpretations of the atonement (that could at the very least subconsciously lead to the endorsement and use of brutal violence), and also to the popular “post-Christian” attempt to pit the concern for victims against the idea of an almost inherently oppressive Christianity (which is itself the intellectual and spiritual revolution that first gave voice to the scapegoated victim in the first place). Between this Reader and the 5 part CBC interview with Rene Girard (do listen to that as well on YouTube), I am captivated by the brilliance of this man, and have been drawn both Girard’s other books and also those works of his influences and conversation partners.

While Rene Girard is less well known in the United States, in Europe, and I speak particularly of France and Germany, he is considered one of the great thinkers of modern times, on a par--insofar as his influence and his innovative thought is concerned--with Freud and Marx, and he is a far more noteworthy thinker for us at this historical moment than either of those two men, whatever their reputation. Girard's work is as accessible as it is startling in its clarity, fundamental simplicity, and authenticity. Reading Girard draws us into one prolonged "Aha!" moment where we ask ourselves over and over how something so clear and so simple could have escaped our notice. René Girard is--or rather was--a practicing Christian, but he had the most tolerant, open-minded respect and interest in the values of others. Moreover, his theories are not contingent upon any acceptance of Christian dogma. He was a thinker of great stature and we should all mourn his passing.

This book is a great addition to my Girard library in French. I wanted to be able to share my keen interest for his inspiring work and ideas with all my American friends and family. This is the perfect entry point for readers who are prepared to make the effort: this is not casual reading. But the reward in a critical look on many tough issues of our personal and societal lives is well worth it.

For me this is a key reference book as I don't have the time or energy to read all the writings of this great philosopher. His theories on the development of culture, especially, religion, are remarkable. The Girard Reader clearly shows his memetic theory, how he developed it, and its importance. For Christians he shows the meaning and impact of Jesus.

Girard has deepest intellectual argument for the Transformative power of the Gospel. Silicon Valley's Peter Theil is a former student and supporter of Girard's thought

Reading Girard's theory on mimetic contagion and scapegoating and its application to the Old and New Testament is a revelation. Girard sees the revelation of God in the Old and New Testament as not just another myth but rather the process by which God unfolds what has been going on in Human Culture since time began. For Girard, all human cultures are founded on a scapegoat who has been ritually murdered. Myth tells the foundational murder from the perspective of the vitimisers. Girard discovered that, by contrast, the Judeo-Christian scriptures do the opposite: they side with the victim. The selections of writings in the Reader (extracts from various books and interviews) explain the evolution of his thought. Note that some of the earlier chapters on the evidence for triangular desire and mimesis in literature are hard going, particularly if you are not faimiliar with the authors being analysed. But, it is worth perservering. And, if the book grabs your attention, there is now a whole industry of Giradian writings to feast on.

Got my book today from the mail, and I find it okay...I liked the size of it, I can definitely put it in my bag. This book gives us a very brief idea on each crystal, what it's made of, healing properties, where to position it for better results. It just doesn't include affirmation which is included in other books like Margaret Ann Lembo's "The Essential Guide to Crystals, Minerals, and Stones."

The three-part Bible series is great. Keep in mind none of the stones are duplicated from one book to another, so buying #3 does NOT mean you get everything in 1 and 2. You "need" all three, which gives you upwards of 750-800 stone descriptions in total.

This review is for the kindle edition only. The kindle edition does not have pictures which makes it hard to identify stones.

I wish I had realized that there is one other review here for the Kindle version and it clearly states there are no pictures. If I had realized that I probably wouldn't have purchased this at all. It will be useful for looking up attributes of different stones/crystals but that's it. I'll have to go elsewhere for any help identifying stones.

I'm new into crystal/gemstone healing and protective powers. I'm energetically sensitive and very much an empath. I purchased two bracelets that have several different stones, to include Shungtite, Black Tourmaline, and Tiger's Eye. This book has helped me also learn about the loose stones that I've purchased at a local store that sells everything crystals and gemstones. When I went into the store for the second time in a week, I asked the woman who owns the place if she could point me in the direction of a stone that would help me harness compassion and unconditional love; lo-and-behold she flipped right to Prehnite. After reading the pages on it, I felt a strong sense of calm, as this was the EXACT stone I needed in my life-not only harnessing unconditional love for others, but harnessing powerful properties to heal the healer. I'm infinity grateful to this woman, and to The Crystal Bible, as I continue my journey into learning how to continue to heal myself, while also helping to heal others in this world that so desperately need it through crystals, gemstones, Reiki and other holistic approaches.

Great intro to crystals. It's also really nice that it is organized in alphabetical order.The only difficult thing is sometimes I can't remember the name of a crystal and would like to be able to look it up by color but the internet is good for that ;)

This is my first purchase of the three-part series by Judy Hall. Volume 1 covers over 200 crystals! I can already tell you I'll be purchasing volumes 2 and 3 (each of which cover 200+ MORE crystals/stones, not included in volume 1) I love how each crystal description includes photos to further help in identification. I also appreciate that rarity and sources were included. Information about the spiritual and physical impacts of crystals on the body is in there as well! This book is loaded with a lot of great information and is the perfect quick reference. It's also small and fits easily in my hand. I highly recommend it for beginners.

I just bought the ebook, and I'm not sure if this book has been revised, or not, but I am going to have to disagree with some of the other reviewers. THIS EBOOK HAS BEAUTIFUL, CLEAR PICTURES OF EACH CRYSTAL DESCRIBED. It contains quite a bit of useful information, and it is perfect for someone who is curious about the metaphysical properties of various crystals and wishes to be able to identify them.

I have worked with crystals for 25 years and it's been a long process to get better at using them. At first nothing would happen at all.This book goes into so much detail the stone, the colors, the shape, all sorts of stuff. I am so glad I bought it. I think she wrote another book but this one is really important. It goes through the physical & emotional & spiritual impacts of the crystal on the body as well as a ton of other information. If you are looking for a book truly this is it.

This book immediately became a favorite. My son was about 2.5 years old when he got this book, he's almost 4 now, and it is still a favorite. For months we had to read it 2x as his bedtime "story" as well as several times during the day. Until I hid it (i could only read it so many times!) He still loves to read it. He even started making up stories about some pics. For instance, the Keppler Spacecraft is going to bring us all to Poppy's house after we visit the moon. 😊I like the large size of the book and the sturdy pages.If it looks a little beat up in the pics, it's bc it gets so much use.

This book reads Dwaft Planets are round however Haumea is oval so now I question the other facts in this book.

the book arrived damaged with the corners smashed from poor packaging. Amazon is replacing it for free. The book itself is awesome. Bright , full of information for young ones and covers a variety of information relating to the universe. LOVE it.

If you want your child to have a career, then put down that you tube video and read this book. It's great for space and planet lovers (our child is obsessed).

Love the big size and the photos! Great quality and perfect for an astronomer in training. My almost 2 year old son loves planets, "ast-naut" (astronaut) and the "moont" (moon). Love that it's a board book that my toddler can't destroy.

This is a book for a much older child than my 9 month old hahaha. It's great because it's ABC universe and right up my husbands ally and it has great educational blurbs (which will come in handy in a few years) but really wont help my child learn the ABC's one bit.

A RECENTLY PUBLISHED BOOK PROVIDING A PHOTOGRAPHIC VIEW OF BRANIFF OVER THE YEARS. THIS WOULD BE A GOOD SUPPLEMENT TO "BRANIFF INTERNATIOINAL SPLASH OF COLORS" BY JOHN J. NANCE 1984.

My husband and I having worked for Braniff for 15 yrs this was a real treat to remember the good old days!

Another appreciated book on Braniff, the airline I worked for from 1965 - 1982 (not counting my 3 years in the Army).

Lots of eye candy and some trivia even the well versed may not have previously encountered. Nice reminder of a whole 'nother world and time.

The book has a collection of very nice b/w and color pictures of Braniff people and planes. It is highly recommended to those who really miss this glamorous airline. Many of the pictures were never published before, not even in Facebook.

There are some interesting facts and pictures in this book, but it is so poorly written that I tended to use it as a jumping off point in order to further research the history of Braniff. The Wikipedia page is just as informative and better organized.

This was a gift. they said they liked it.
