Many plants are listed along with a bit of advice as to what the herb is used for. Many of the photos are a bit fuzzy in appearance to me. If a person does not already know from a clearer photo, the plant they are looking for, they may not feel confident using the photos from this book. Detailed written descriptions are given for the plants. Some of the plants also give general advice for preparation.

Small book by dimensions but has a lot of info. I wish it had a little bigger and more photos along with more info about preparing the herbs and a geographical map where the plants are located.

this guide will assist you in identifying western plants that have medicinal uses. I currently own 8 books on western medicianal plants. if i had purchased this one first i would not have purchased any of the others.

pics are kinda small but informative .

This the perfect hand book to take on trips and out foraging. Couldn't be more pleased with size, color photos and descriptions. A perfect fit in my back pack! Thanks.

I went into this trilogy with high hopes. The first book had exciting themes and introduced a very interesting overall plot line, jumping between different points in time, leaving you eager to find how things got to where they did. However, far too much time was spent on character development, and going in-depth on details, that were not relevant to the overall plot. I felt that whole chapters were spent telling stories about people and their lives that weren't that interesting and didn't add much to the books. Unfortunately the same was true of books 2 and 3. Overall very interesting ideas, but should have been one book rather than three. The story was worth it for the big ideas, but overall laborious to read.

Margaret Atwood's MaddAddam has been one of my favorite contemporary sci-fi series. The author of the classic A Handmaid's Tale brings her dystopian skills to bear on the twenty first century. While the series emphasizes the dangers of biotechnology and corporatism the last book emphasizes the rise of the military-internet complex. I've found it is a series that goes over well with both sexes, and that this box set makes an excellent gift.

Margaret Atwood is one of my favorite authors, and I really like this trilogy. She writes very well and it's a joy to read her books. On top of this, she writes about provocative and/or timely topics in a thoughtful way. You might not agree with her, but you will think about the things she writes about. Don't plan on speeding through this trilogy, but you will get a lot out of it. I especially recommend The Year of the Flood for people interested in environmental issues, but it will be better if you read Oryx and Crake first.

THESE BOOKS WASTED GOOD PAPER &INK BUT SINCE IT IS WINTER I CAN USE IT TO HELP START MY WOOD FIRE.

This is an amazing trilogy. My first story from Margaret Atwood, and she absolutely blew me out of the water. Couldn't put it down.

Oh my God, yes. Margaret Atwood was just getting started with A Handmaid's Tale. A cautionary tale about what can happen with genetic modification. Chilling.

I adore Margaret Atwood. This series is fantastic! Dystopian future that does not seem at all unrealistic given our current state of environment, food, health, and relationships with one another.

Never thought I'd care for futuristic reading, but Margaret. Attwood changed my mind. A fascinating read.

I'm beginning my journey to self identify and this was a great start. It really opened my eyes to consider how certain traits, attitudes, and behaviors have been passed down through generations. I been questioning a lot of habits I have and what I will do differently for my future family. I wonder how, as an emerging educator, I can tap in the minds of children and adolescents to teach them about who they were to change who they'll be. After reading this, I believe the way to break the cycles in my community begin knowing where and why the cycles came to be

Dr. Joy DeGruy wrote this book that is necessary for every American especially African American to read. I have been on my own personal journey to healing some past traumas and within the last couple of months I began to realize that some of the unconscious patterns of thought and actions didn’t start with me my parents or my parents parents. Unfortunately after studying the chakras, yoga, Louise hay, therapist and etc. I still didn’t get to the root of it all and no one touches on the intricate effects of slavery and PTSS as Dr. Joy explains. I recently participated in a really deep intense breathing seminar with a large group of people and an intuitive healer. We let out breaths that were done for over an hour allowing us to release and let me just say what I realeased was not mine and was deeply embedded in me. I really got the feeling I was releasing the excruciating pain of being whipped, drowned, or experiencing some horrific trauma of one of my ancestors as a slave. I cried out in so much pain and uncontrollable movements in my body and wanted it to stop I remember grasping the healers arm in panic as I was reassured that everything was ok and to surrender. I say this to say this really left me shook and catapulted me into really figuring out what more I needed to realease because the space of serenity I felt afterwords was too profound to explain and scary to realize I was carrying that load and didnt even know it. Do the work if your ancestors were brought here unwillingly and start healing communities.

Opened my eyes to the causes of so much dysfunction within the African American community. It explained things that I questioned within my own family. I finished the book with a better understanding but also a great concern for my community and its future. I am still working through the grief of knowing the truth behind our behaviors. I'd recommend it to anyone, but especially African Americans, because we don't fully know why we behave the way we do. My criticisms are that after the diagnosis, what is full plan for resolution? That might be too much to ask, however, there are so many books on the diagnosis. It's the equivalent of going to 20 doctors that diagnose you with the same illness but none of them offer a cure. And you suspect that the cure is hard to swallow for the doctor and you because it will change the world by turning it upside down.

The book was recommended by a neighborhood friend from my past. When I purchased the book and began reading I could not put it down. I have long been an advocate of promoting justice and have; demonstrating against acts of prejudice and discrimination.Dr. Joy DeGruy did an excellent job in terms of connecting our present with our past. Thank you... Makes one think and allows one to reflect and move forward wisely.

I Love this book!! I as did Dr DeGruy have always had questions about myself, my family members as well as the African American community as to why we act a certain way towards each other. Why do we hate each other, quit school so frequently, give up on our dreams, become teenage parents at such young ages, and the list goes on. This book breaks down to the very core of why we do this to ourselves as well as break down why "white" society treats us as they do. Slavery was two sided and affected both races in a negative way. If you read this book and take in "truth" it will change your life forever whether black or white. It is a must have for the African American family if you want to know where to start to affect change in your house starting with knowing how to fix yourself. Dr Degruy gives you a starting point of what the issues are and what you need to do to start the positive changes that's needed in our lives! Please, PLEASE, Please purchase this book!

After watching the Netflix show "Wild, Wild Country" I wanted to read a little more about Jane Stork. I found her to be one of the more compelling people featured in the documentary. I was happy to find that she wrote a book about her experience with Rajneesh/Osho. I have read numerous books about people leaving cults. Most of these books are not particularly well written, but I find their stories intriguing enough to overlook that. With Jane Stork's memoirs, this is not an issue. Her writing style is easy and fluid. It is a pleasure to read her book. The story, itself, is very harrowing. She had a difficult road to walk. Most of it was self inflicted. Watching her wake up to self-responsibility is beautiful, though the road she took was anything but that. She found her peace through hard won honesty and self awareness.This book follows her life story from her youth, her dissent into a cult, her mental and moral breakdown and her slow and long recovery to true maturity, freedom and peace of mind. It is an incredible life journey with much heartbreak and loss. But it also shows the resiliency of the human heart and spirit. It charts the power of self-deception and self-awareness and how one brings misery and the other brings freedom.This book is well worth the read, especially if you or a family member have ever been effected by a cult. This book is powerful stuff and a clarion call for personal responsibility and self awareness. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

Honest, well-written, interesting. It's the story both of Ms. Stork's (Shanti B) personal journey, beginning in childhood, as well as her time with Rajneesh and her subsequent legal travails. She is at once single-minded, naive, mystical, remarkably well-read and articulate, obviously very intelligent, and ultimately a kind person - but one with a glaring achilles' heel that led her into deeper and deeper (and shark-infested!) waters. She readily admits that she was unable to face reality - something that is a human universal, so this story has a degree of universal resonance.As someone who lived in Rajneeshpuram, knew this entire cast of characters, and also knew quite well her nuclear family that plays a central role in this book, I am pleased that she has found her way to be breathtakingly honest. In the pantheon of Rajneeshee memoirs, let alone ex-sanyassins, that is a pretty rare quality. I place this book at the top of the list with Tim Guest's My Life In Orange as worthwhile windows into the Rajneesh phenomenon.

I had seen the author Jane Stork in the documentary Wild Wild Country in which she was one of the interviewed persons that seemed to be very honest, so I became interested in her. In her book she describes, how she came to Bhagwan and had been living in his ashram in Pune. Her desire to make everything rightly, combined with honesty and self-denial, let her become a tough heroine. She not only said Yes in words, but also proved that she really carried out what she said, even if it went against her grain. In the new commune in Oregon, where things went into chaos, she tried to assassinate Bhagwan's doctor in an attempt to save Bhagwan's life. She knew she had gone beyond the pale and had to leave the commune. She escaped to Germany. What followed was a long process of working through her life removing layer by layer. Several times she had to face legal trials and was sentenced to prison. It was a huge cleansing process in which she brought light into her unconscious past and became aware of her dark sides.It was a long process, in which she became a seeker in a true sense discovering her self that was buried so long. While reading I felt more and more compassion. What matters is to trust life. Is it important, if you consider yourself to be a sannyasin or a dropout? These are all labels on the outside that don't touch our real beings. It was a revelation to me that Bhagwan's misdeeds, which she condemns so much, helped her and many other stubborn sannyasins to get rid of their misunderstood surrender. Without his scandalous behaviour she would still sit at his feet as a faithful sannyasin and confuse surrender with obedience. Blind adoration would never have awakened her.Jane Stork won't probably agree with my insights. Although the book has a few minor flaws, I will give it 5 stars because of the revelations that overwhelmed me. Jane Stork has done a great work and her book moved me deeply. It almost transformed me without doing anything but reading.

An incredible author. She is powerfully honest, talented with her words, and capable of creating exact images in succinct language. The narrative is fascinating, but second to her ability to tell it.

As a voracious reader of fantasy, I've read just about every series out there. The Sword of Truth series, the Kingkiller Chronicles, the Codex Alera series, and The Stormlight Archive just to name a few. What usually bothers me is is just how straightforward the story arch can be. The good guy is miraculously good, discovers incredible powers, fights against bad guy (who is nothing but evil), and succeeds at the very last moment. Sometimes characters are intended to seem intelligent yet they succeed almost purely on luck. In some series the plot will be varied and fascinating, but the writing style will be so verbose you find yourself sloggin through pages and pages to get to the next big thing. Then the story becomes an excercise in waiting for something you know is going to happen.Brent Weeks' writing style, however, is none of that.To me the most interesting thing about Brent Weeks is not the twisting and turning of the plot. It's the careful attention he gives to the pacing. He'll cut away from a certain character, leaving you desperately wondering what happens next, but then move into something else completely fascinating and new. You'll forget for a moment how desperate you are to see the next big event. Instead the new perspective is always a perfect compliment, enhancing clarity and furthering the plot in ways that the main story arch could never provide. Even if you do get bored, it wont be for long. There's always something crucial to be seen or learned just a few pages away.If you like complex world-building that's beautifully creative and easy to understand...If you like a fast-paced storyline yet appreciate character development...If you like to see evil and good and everything in between all mixed together...If you like characters who act as intelligently or stupidly as their personality demands...If you like social commentary through a diverse cast who each believe in their own principles...If you like a plot that moves forward by more than the characters' need to not die or not let the bad guy win...If you like a story that has no clear endgame...If you like good writing that doesn't bog the story down by being overly styled or descriptive...This is the series for you.

I give it 1 star only bc I can’t give it zero stars.I bought this series after reading Weeks’ Shadow series. BIG MISTAKE. I find it hard to believe they were written by the same author. I mistakenly assumed the quality of the writing would be the same. It’s not; not by a long stretch.The Lightbringer series reads like a 10th grade student’s work. Interesting potential but poor delivery. I’ll try to avoid any spoilers but in all honesty, there aren’t many things to spoil.The writing is clumsy and unnecessarily wordy. In some instances, the grammar was incorrect. If used as a tool for character building, that would be one thing. But when used from an omniscient POV, it is unnecessary. It makes the author sound as uneducated as the character.The switching of the names of the Prism is clumsy. I imagine writing about someone who has assumed the identity of someone else would create a difficult concept to pull off but nonetheless, in these books, it is an epic fail. Perhaps King, Grisham or other fiction icons could do it but Weeks most certainly doesn’t.The concept of “Luxin” is never fully explained and it is critical to the story! Yet what it is, how it can be used, why certain people can create different kinds - all of that is either left out or explained in such a way as to further muddle its concept. Within the concept of “luxin” there are subclasses which seem to further obfuscate an already ill defined concept.The character development also lacks finess. From the first chapter, it’s apparent that the main character will eventually master the entire span of color “power” but it’s a painstakingly long and drawn out process. From the first book (The Black Prism) to the second, the main character doesn’t really seem to change. There’s nothing likeable (or with other books, purposefully unlikeable) about him. He starts as a talentless, uneducated and ignorant peasant boy; as it seems ALL fantasy characters start. Midway through the second book I finally gave up and stopped reading, something I have done on only about a dozen other books. (Especially when I’ve purchased the entire series. That was a HUGE mistake bc by the time I got to them and realized how bad they are, the return window had closed.) But by that point, Kip was *still* an ignorant, mildly talented, uneducated boy. Gavin and his brother had undergone little change as well, other then a “change of scenery” for his brother.)The notion that each year, people willingly die is just far, far, far too far fetched. All works if ficty, especially sci-fi and fantasy require the reader to take a leap of faith to be read. This leap is too far and the reader will either splat against a cliff or just fall into a ravine. While some characters will be willing to die for their beliefs, kings, whatever - it’s too much to ask for the reader to believe dozens of people knowingly allow themselves to be killed to be “set free.” It defies logic, particularly in this case when so many of the concepts lack adequate explanation.I’ll be selling the series as soon as I can. Maybe I can recoup a fraction of what I spent on them. The Shadow series is actually quite good which is why I had no reason to think this series would be so dramatically different.Initially I thought that perhaps the ”Lightbringer” series was written first; with great improvement found in the Shadow series. However that was not the case. It felt as if this series was hammered out with little forethought or editing, banking on the success of the Shadow series to incite people to buy the second series. If so, it worked and I’m out about $50One last item of note. The proofreading of this series was...I don’t know - maybe it just wasn’t done! Sentences would end mid-stream and there were a number of typographical errors. I know I’m not perfect and one could probably find a number of errors in this review. But I am not a writer so there’s little need for me to need one.Save your money and don’t bother with this series. It is perhaps one of the worst written books I’ve read in a long time. Enjoy the Shadow series but stop there!

I've restarted this review several times, each time trying to qualify my feelings toward the book and each time finding more reasons to actually like it.Overall, I came away from it feeling "meh". It was typical Brent Weeks' writing style, which I absolutely love, but there were many parts of the story that were a total slog to get through. Kip's character was pretty annoying, and I wanted Karris to be so much more. I'm giving my judgment of annoyance for the Prism's character a pass for now because I think there is a lot more depth to come in the following books.The color analogies really bothered me, too, but I guess you have to define your basis for the magical realm somewhere, so now we have Prism, Spectrum, Chromeria, the White, etc. Okay, fine.I also felt let down by Gavin Guile because it left me with more confusion over his conflicting character rather than mystery.I did like the portrayal of the Chromeria as being corrupt. The Freeing left me feeling very uneasy and almost on the side of the rebels fighting for the wights.I also really liked Liv's character because I felt like she was probably the most realistic, being from a poor background and having to face the corruption and blackmail of more powerful people.All in all, it took me a long time to come around to the idea of liking this story. There were definitely parts I couldn't put it down, but the huge chunk of the book that was the battle was a drag.I think I will read the second book now that I've had a chance to analyze how I felt about the first, but altogether I wouldn't call this my favorite - especially having read the Night Angel trilogy first which is by far one of my favorite series ever.
