My son is really into these. He started with book 1 at age 3 and now has this set. When I am not reading to him, he peers through the book himself. The layout of a graphic novel makes it easy for him to tell himself the story.

Amazing finish to the trilogy! Well done! I love how I got to experience the growth of each character she introduced. Poor Rafe doing the best he could under dire circumstances, Sam trying to be better than his father, and Ruby growing in the best of ways! I won’t spoil it for you, but the experiences these characters go through are believable and real. Lessons learned are applicable to our lives. Wesley was such a breath of fresh air throughout and had such wisdom for a boy who is barely entering adulthood. This series was well worth the read and will be catogorized into my must read again pile.😁

I just happened upon this series because of a recommendation from someone who knows the author. After reading the other two books, I was counting down the days until this book’s release. I love this series because the characters are well delevloped, and the plot is fast-moving, well-thought-out, and keeps you on your toes. I usually don’t read dystopian fiction because it’s too violent or depressing for me. I felt like these books were a good mix of real struggles and emotion combined with hope.I was not disappointed with this final installment of the series. It was much like the other books with a heart wrenching in some ways but very satisfying ending. It left me feeling like I learned some things about myself and like I wished the characters could go on living in more books, like a good book should.My only reservation about these books is the level of maturity required to read them. Because of some of the romantic elements, I would not let my pre-teens who are avid readers read them. I would not have liked them as a teenager for this same reason. I feel like all the good characters are honorable, and nothing is explicit (not even swearing, which I am so grateful for) so these are definitely clean, but they are for a more mature audience.

A totally satisfying conclusion to a wonderful series! Ruby, Sam, Wesley, Rhonda, Job, and Rafe all want the same thing, an end the plague that divides and condemns their world. Spellbinding action on the trail that might or might not save the Marked. I loved this series!

The characters were believable. I couldn't wait to read all 3 books, so I bought them all and read them one after the other. I love a book that takes you on a trip, like you were one of the characters. It was Awesome!!!

This is a post-apocalyptic with teen romance thrown in, so if you like that sort of thing you will probably like this series. There were a few little things that niggled at me, like the over protective nature of the love interest, but he never went so far with it that he didn't respect Ruby's wishes so I could over look that. In general I liked him.There were some repetitive things that happened in the series as a whole. There is a lot of traveling from place to place, and I kind of felt like it got a little old after a while. And Ruby and her friends tended to get captured a lot, which I thought happened a little too often. Mostly though I liked this book and the series overall was good, and I liked that not everything was wrapped up too neatly in the end. There were a couple of deaths that made me sad but needed to happen to balance things out.Something I liked about this series is the way the author describes the scientific research for creating the virus and finding the cure. I'll admit I am not a scientist and never did that well in science in school, but the way it was written made it feel somewhat plausible to me instead of just coming out of nowhere.This series was a quick, fun read and I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.Thanks to the author for providing me with a copy of this book.

I read a lot of YA literature and I absolutely loved this series. It touches on so many level, we get realistic relationships-people who are flawed and struggling, the basic concept of good versus evil, relationships, sacrifice, doubt-it’s strong on so many levels. A must read that I will pass on to my 16 year old daughter-and encourage people of all ages to check out this series and this author!

Now that Sawako and Kazuya are seeing each other, we get to see the wonders and akwardness of young love. The two really begin learning about each other and what it means to be a couple, right up to when Sawako's Mom sees them holding hands. Then it's the fun of meeting her parents and the father grill that most teenage boys should go through before getting serious. Then its the story of how Chizu and Ayane met, and they did not start out as close as they did - but with a little help from a certain spooky girl they get to know each other.This is one of the milestones i was hoping to read. I just finished the anime and just got to this one in the manga form. I loved her fathers reactions to meeting his little girls' beau and the back story of two other favorite characters. I wish they would start a new season of the anime, because i really think watching this would be hilarious.

This manga has made me laugh and made me cry, its one of those stories where you feel like you know the characters, you can understand what they are going through, maybe unless you are one of those people that can't hold things in, then maybe you can't completely understand.

I know there are a lot of great romance series out there! However, I think this one touched me more.. I really wish they extended the anime.. but that's just me I guess. I just really like how sawako sounds.. everything about her is prefect to me... She's the exact representation of my soulmate whom probably doesn't exist 😭such a great love story.. I kind of see this anime as a legacy to fufilling something I never had..

Heartwarming series. The characters, the progression of their relationships, and sweet Sawako and Kazehaya. Seriously one of my favorite manga and stories ever.

I became interested in this manga after watching the anime several years ago, and actually collected the series up to volume 22. Around that time, I had a change of heart and decided not to collect any more volumes, although I will still read them when they come out. Why the change of heart? At first, I was very much enthralled by this series, a very honest depiction of young love that seems more grounded in reality than other high school romances such as Kare Kano. But we are now at a point in the story where there really isn't anywhere for the story to go. Sawako started out as an outcast mainly because she looked scary, but all she needed was a little bit of a makeover like "My Fair Lady" or "She's All That," she wasn't unattractive at all, she was actually a truly attractive person who just needed people to appreciate and accept her. Okay... not the most original concept, but the story that has unfolded has turned out well.However, at this point she is the most popular girl in the class, everyone loves her, she and Kazehaya have been going "steady" for a year already and the main dramatic thrust of the story has been achieved. The problem now is that there is a distinct lack of dramatic tension. Ms. Shiina's idea of a dramatic moment in volume 24 is having a school festival take place and Kazehaya and Sawako get too tired because they've been working too hard. Hardly anything to get excited over. It shows that Ms. Shiina seems to be running out of ideas. Yes, there are a couple threads to resolve, like "Will Ryo and Chizuru get together" (obviously, probably that would be a "yes"), "Will Kentaro and Ayane get together again" (maybe, maybe not), and the big question, "Do Sawako and Kazehaya stay together and get married, have kids, live happily ever after?" I will continue reading faithfully to the end, but I think it's time for the series to come to a conclusion.

A fun series and a quick read.

I was very impressed with the simple plan to change my diet, eliminate habits like stress and inadequate sleep that contributes to the great fatigue. He also explains that exercise along with the rest of the plan can put my body into a healthy state and give me a better quality of life. I have struggled with this problem for 15 yrs. and been on medication and the fatigue and other symptoms under a good doctors care. Marc Ryan is a terrific author who brings understanding to many patients and compassion because he has experienced this himself. I am so glad that I finally understand all the pieces to this thyroid disease and am already doing the multi-step plan to improve my health. This is the definitive book for anyone with Hashimotos Autoimmune Thyroid Disease. I had a younger sister who had this and passed away 10 years ago as her body destroyed itself. Thank you Marc for the videos, the book, and all your knowledge to help so many people like me. This book is a wonderful window into the world of the issue of Hashimoto's thyroiditis. It is not done in stale clinical fashion though. This book is written in a very readable format with humor and passion for helping patients to pinpoint and begin healing the Hashimoto's. Marc Ryan's approach to helping someone to begin healing comes from the extensive research of the human body and its functions from not only a clinical aspect but one that embraces the ideas and virtues of Chinese medicine. In our western medical system, things are either one way or another. There is no gray area, there is only a doctor giving his diagnosis, and loading the overburdened system down with the latest medications, sometimes to the detriment of the patient. This book helps a person to see themselves from the inside, not just in the mirror. Marc's approach to the Hashimoto's disease is one that is full of Chinese Medicine and its understanding of the human body, journaling, narrowing down things that are aggravating the system, as well as talking about how emotional and environmental factors impact the body's immune responses and long-term damage can come from these factors, if unchecked. This book is informative in that it gives you a blueprint, and you have to do the work, but in the end, it will be a benefit that will help you change your life for the good and learn to put Hashimoto's into remission and even heal yourself.

Ever since I was a kid, I've always wanted to visit Yemen. Like author Kevin Rushby, I didn't want to do research there, earn money there,. or take anything away from Yemen. I just wanted to see, hear, feel, and know what that faroff land was like. Thanks to my dear President and his warloving cronies, I now have a snowball's chance in hell of ever achieving my dream. Keep on shootin' George, you'll definitely solve all problems that way. I must say, though, that the next best thing to a Yemen trip could be reading EATING THE FLOWERS OF PARADISE. Though the story of the author's voyage centers around qat, a leaf from a tree which grows in Ethiopia and Yemen, whose leaves are chewed to induce a feeling of dreamy well-being and melancholy happiness, this is a travel book par excellence. While Rushby starts his solo voyage in Ethiopia, his lack of local language, and the general lack of information about Ethiopia other than what he sees and does himself, do not entrance the reader. (Nor does he travel in the more interesting parts of the country.) He meets some wild characters [a Nigerian gem smuggler named Cedric or Arthur or...?] and has a few strange adventures in Djibouti, on the Red Sea coast. It is when he lands in Yemen that the book really gets good. Rushby speaks some Arabic. Yemeni rural people come alive in this book, their villages, the hospitality of all, the terraced mountains where qat, coffee, and other crops are grown, the magnificent, rugged scenery of remote parts of the country. Readers may pick up some recent history, some facts about former times, and details of qat growing and use, but this is a very existential travel book, not given to long-winded explanations. Rushby makes no bones about it. He wandered the Yemeni "outback" looking for good highs. He found plenty. Chewing qat with the locals was an excellent way to integrate himself in Yemeni society, where large numbers of people chew qat every afternoon. Rushby records all sorts of bizarre or culturally fascinating incidents. Some of the bizarre ones have to do with his own behavior and qat-induced dreams. When I finished the book, if someone had offered me a ticket to Yemen, I would have flown out that very evening. Sadly, this colorful, fascinating book is as close as I'll ever get. Two other books on Yemen that make a great trio with Rushby's book are "Motoring with Mohammed" by Eric Hansen, and Steven Caton's "Peaks of Yemen I Summon".

Kevin is a good artist. He vividly describes his travels, and you feel that you are there. For those places in Yemen where I have been, I felt like I was there again. He is accurate in his descriptions, as well as poetic- a rare art. His book is focused on a destination- traveling the old qat route, and this helps give more cohesiveness then you find in most travelogues. There is a rare vivid description of demonic manifestation and folk Islamic exorcism, in great detail. As an added bonus, the ubiquitous Tim Mackintosh-Smith shows up again, as he seems to do in every book about Yemen. We can see some of the same journeys Tim reports in Yemen, but from the perspective of his fellow traveler. And there is even an oblique reference to the boat of Eric Hansen from Motoring with Mohammed.I value this book for the same reason I find it wanting. I wanted to learn more about qat- what I couldn't find anywhere else: how it effects you, to what extent it is addictive, what the side effects are. There is too much contradictory material in the literature, and so you almost have to go to an addict to discover these questions. And now having read Kevin, I am fairly sure that I will not do qat again.Kevin is also a drug addict. He denies it, pointing out the difference between an true addict and the average qat user like himself. But what he describes has all the earmarks of addiction. Certainly, there appear to be no withdrawal pains- and again, information I had been unable to verify elsewhere. But also he describes a constant desire to have the leaf, and a feeling of incompleteness without it. It has become the center of his life, and the life of many Yemeni, to hear Kevin tell it. They become quite cantankerous without their daily qat chew. This also is addiction. He also describes the side effects, depending on the variety of leaf, such as horrifying dreams and even an inability to fully comprehend life around you. Some of the dreams Kevin describes I'd frankly describe as demonic. He doesn't mention the increase in mouth cancer caused by the use of DDT on the leaves. Most significantly, it has a profound effect on the user, as told by Kevin. We learn that it changes your personality and emotional state, making you babble as if you were on marijuana, unable to remember the immediate past but to focus with great clarity on the distant past. It keeps you up for two days at a time, depressing appetite and sex drive significantly, which is helpful, as qat production leaves less arable land to grow crops in the poorest Arab country in the world. After stimulating you for hours, it leaves you slightly depressed. It seems to have the visions of LSD, the relaxation of marijuana, the depression of alcohol, and the addiction of caffeine and tobacco combined. It seems to be the perfect Soma- except that it tastes like hard, dried tea leaves without sugar.But I don't want my mind altered, not even by Soma. It doesn't matter that there are no withdrawal effects- I don't want to experience demonic dreams and have my mood altered by a substance. I'd rather experience being drunk on God than a leaf. So I am quite thankful to Kevin for so vividly describing qat and how it works. Unfortunately, he is all praise of the plant, and does not realize what it does to him and many Yemeni.

I found this book very interesting to read as I know little about the region he visited. I bought the book at a thrift shop mainly because of the area he traveled in. I had no idea that the book was about the drug Qat,which I confess to knowing absolutely nothing about. I know much more about it know! But the appeal of the book to me was in the cultural descriptions he offers. I really felt like he got into the customs and habits of the locals as he was often roughing it in the literal sense of the word. No 5 star hotels for this man! He definitely has a true explorers curiosity and his adventure reminded me of some of the travels of Sir Richard Burton (who is referred to in the book). He isn't afraid to take chances and the people he meets and the situations he gets himself in make for a good read.

For a book that was published in 2008, a lot of the information in here is out of date, e.g., a restaurant visited in 2010 had been closed for five years, and perhaps half the phone numbers out of date. The maps are execrable. Offers to provide the publisher with updated information went unanswered. Still, the writing is pleasant and there are not many books to choose from in this area.

The Guide not only provides critical, practical information but it also provides intelligent socio-cultural, economic and political background to help the travelor try to better understand Yemen's amamazing diversity and confounding complexities. The Guide's author has a close connection to Yemen and the guide is therefore a good companion. As always, more detailed maps of the major cities would be welcome.

This guide is a perfect introduction to Yemen for those who've never been, but would work equally well as a guidebook for those who have already explored the country and are eager to travel there again. With a montage of descriptions, anecdotes and instructions, Mr. McLaughlin has crafted a succinct travel guide that will both charm and inform.

Overall this is a good guidebook. I used it on my trip to Yemen.Especially good is the introduction where the history is covered in depth.

Maps fail to include key landmarks.Wadi Do'an is scarcely even mentioned.Many of the better budget hotels in Sana'a are not mentioned at all.The author's writing is inelegant and rote and his grammar and spelling poor. The editors have failed to correct these problems.The difficulty for the prospective traveller to Yemen is that there is, as far as I know, no other (up-to-date) guidebook devoted solely to that country.This fact may compel you to consider buying Bradt's guidebook. My advice would be not to waste your money.
